Which seat belt retractor are you trying to access?

I can tell you that the retractors are not serviceable so the only way to fix it is to replace it.

I did find a TSB for retractors that are slow to retract that may help as well. CLICK HERE

Aside from all of the Air Bag warnings.. it's really just a matter of reming the trim panels that are in the way, and then unbolting the unit... the trick is that you need a large Torx Bit for the bolt.

still need to know how to access retractor unit. Does back of seat snap out? I don't want to pull on it if thats not the way to get at the retractor

I found THESE INSTRUCTIONS for the Super cab. It looks like the back panel is just held in with plastic pins.

my truck is not a super cab. I tried to snap out plastic back of seat and it wouldn't give. I'm afraid if I use a tool it will break. Are you sure it snaps out?
