What is the actual problem?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

steering very hard and jerky. like there is no power steering, but pump appears ok.

rack appears ok feels like its fighting me when I try to turn

Expert:  Daryl replied 6 years ago.
Is the pump making noise when this happens? Does it do the same thing when turning in both directions?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

the pump makes no noise. same problem in both directions.

had truck in shop, they do not know what to do.

used truck this morning. this seems to be intermittant.

problem still there, but not all that bad this morning.

when problem first occurred, it went away for a couple days.

then it returned and was really bad until this morning.

I have no idea.

There really are only 2 parts that will cause this problem, the pump or the steering gear itself, since there is no noise from the pump I would suspect that the pump is the cause of the problem(its not trying to work hard) but to be sure when the problem is happening I would pinch the return hose to the pump if it whines or makes a noise that means it is trying to work harder so then the steering gear is the problem, if it does not make any noises the pump is the problem.
