2000 expedition: went bad..solenoid..the starter still in engaged

i have a 2000 expedition starter went bad replaced with a new. replaced solenoid as well. start truck up you can hear the starter still in engaged while truck is running. trun truck off will not restart. took starter off and the solenoid was very very very hot. what do you think.
so its like the starter is stuck on?

replace starter and solenoid. started truck up you can hear the starter still engaged. trun truck off then try to restart nothing. pulled the new starter back off and the solenoid was very very very hot.
is it ghetting power to the starter? did you test for power with a test light or volt meter>?

no i do not own one

it sounds like the ignition switch may be sticking or failed. It will likely require replacement. But there is a service bulletin from ford i will post it you may want to check the terminals first

ISSUE
Some vehicles may exhibit a no crank condition due to an open circuit in the starter relay to starter motor circuit at the starter motor connection.

 

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

A new starter terminal wiring pigtail kit is released eliminating the need to replace the entire harness for the terminal connection.

NOTE TERMINAL KIT ONLY SERVICES THE STARTER RELAY TO STARTER MOTOR CIRCUIT. THE KIT DOES NOT SERVICE STARTER MOTOR BATTERY POWER CIRCUIT.

 

Refer to instruction sheet contained in Wiring Pigtail Kit for wiring harness service procedure.

NOTE REFERENCE THE APPROPRIATE WORKSHOP MANUAL SERVICE SECTION 303-06 FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF THE STARTER MOTOR WIRING TERMINAL CONNECTION PROCEDURES.
