2005 F250: hesitating..acceleration and blowing black smoke

Resolved Question:

I have a 2005 F250 Diesel 4x4. It has just started hesitating on acceleration and blowing black smoke. Any ideas as to what might be causing it. It does have a small oil leak at the moment. From what I am told they have to pull the engine out to fix. Too much $$$ right now for me. Thanks
