Ford explorer: steady clicking noise from engine, sounds..trans

Resolved Question:

ford explorer 4.0 has steady clicking noise from engine, sounds lke near rear of engine. low maybe at motor to trans area. Started after engine stopped in middle of starting sequence. Finally started after a couple of trys and started clicking noise. Power is good runs ok just has noise.

this, could be a starter that is sticking , does the clicking change as the egnine speed changes.

these commonly have a clicking noise that can come from the heat ducts, due to a faulty blend door actuator

noise is with engine speed. engine gets faster, so does noise

i would pull the starter and see if theres anything hung up on the starter drive

also inspect the flywheel and see if it is cracked or loose
