my 2005 ford explorer keeps showing "check fuel cap", I changed the gas cap, it didn't fix the problem, the check engine light came on and the diagnostic showed it was the fuel cap, what can I do to fix this problem?

This can also happen when the canister vent solenoid is bad or leak in the EVAP system.
You need to take the vehicle to get smoke tested to see if there are any external leaks.
If there are none, replace the solenoid.

Can you double check the code P0440. There is no code like that in the shop manual.

There is a P0442, P0443 on up.
