I really need the parts manual breakdown of the same steering column with part numbers as it will tell me more than the "how to" pages.

The steering column information is perfect. now the problem with the headlight system has been asked but not answered I had an accident 2 years ago and I feel that some parts were not replaced and the headlight beam bounces around beyond acceptible amount.
Hi J J McMaster,

Unfortunately there just isn't much info on the headlights, at least not much as far as diagrams go, although there is this.(see below).

Headlamp Assembly

Removal

  1. WARNING: THE REPLACEABLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CONTAINS GAS UNDER PRESSURE. THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB MAY SHATTER IF THE GLASS ENVELOPE IS SCRATCHED OR THE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB IS DROPPED. HANDLE HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB CAREFULLY. GRASP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB ONLY BY ITS PLASTIC BASE. AVOID TOUCHING GLASS ENVELOPE. KEEP HALOGEN HEADLAMP BULB OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Make sure the headlamp switch (11654) and autolamp time delay switch (if equipped) are in the OFF position.

  2. Disconnect headlamp dash panel junction wire (14290).

  3. Use a 9 mm deepwell socket to remove the three retainers on the two headlamp adjusting screws (13032) holding the headlamp (13008) to radiator grille opening panel reinforcement (8A284).

  4. Remove headlamp from vehicle and remove headlamp bulb and retainers (13N021).

Installation

  1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

1997 Thunderbird/Cougar

Headlamps

Aerodynamic

The headlamp system consists of:

  • two aerodynamic headlamps (13008) with replaceable halogen bulbs
  • three-position headlamp switch (11654) (with integral circuit breaker)
  • headlamp dimmer switch (part of multi-function switch (13K359))
  • circuit wiring and circuit protection

The headlamp switch:

  • Is provided power through Circuit 37 (Y).
  • Is protected by power distribution box Fuse 7 (60A) located in the engine compartment.
  • Is provided ground at the headlamp bulb and retainers (13N021) through Circuit 57 (BK).
  • When pulled all the way out, provides power to the headlamp dimmer switch (part of the multi-function switch) through Circuit 15 (R/Y).

With the headlamp dimmer switch:

  • In the LO position (middle position), power is supplied to the low-beam elements through Circuit 13 (R/BK).
  • In the HI position (forward detent), power is supplied to the high-beam elements through Circuit 12 (LG/BK) and to the high-beam indicator in the instrument cluster (10849).
  • Momentarily pulled toward the steering wheel (3600), the flash-to-pass switch closes and the high-beamheadlamps light and will remain lit until the headlamp dimmer switch is released.
