HOW DO I INSTALL A FUEL PUMP ON A 1998 FORD EXPLORER,DIAGRAMS OR SERVICE MANUAL PAGES

HiCustomerthis is lostrider, here is the procedure, there are special tools required to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump that can be purchased at most major parts stores, hope this helps.

 


Push Connect Fittings

Fuel Tank

 

Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

  1. Drain the fuel tank (9002).
  1. NOTE: Steps 2 through 4 pertain to four wheel drive models only.

    Remove the bolts.

  2. Remove the rear LH bolt.

  2. Remove the rear RH bolt and lower the fuel tank skid plate.

  2. Use a suitable jack to support the fuel tank.

  2. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe (9034) and the vent hose.

  2. Remove the bolt and remove the fuel tank support strap (9092).

  2. Remove the bolts and push the fuel tank back until the lip clears the support bracket.

  2. Lower the fuel tank just enough to expose the fuel lines and the fuel tank transducer connector.

  2. Disconnect the fuel lines and the vapor lines.

  2. Disconnect the fuel tank electrical supply connector near the frame rail. Lower the fuel tank.

Installation: Reverse removal procedure.

 

Pump-Fuel

 

Removal

  1. Remove the fuel tank (9002).
  1. Clean the area around the fuel pump (9350) mounting flange.
  1. NOTE: The fuel pump must be handled carefully to avoid damage to the float arm and the filter.

    Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts and remove the fuel pump.

  2. Remove and discard the fuel pump mounting gasket (9417).

Installation

  1. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange and the fuel tank mounting surface.
  1. Install the fuel pump mounting gasket on the mounting flange.
  1. Install the fuel pump.
    1. Position the fuel pump in the fuel tank.
    1. Install the bolts.

  2. Install the fuel tank.
