2005 F350: integrated trailer brake controller that..keeps throwing

Resolved Question:

I just bought a 2005 F350 with integrated trailer brake controller that is not working. It keeps throwing the codes "TBC FAULT" and "TRAILER DISCONNECTED".... It is about to drive me crazy! I was advised at my local dealership that the contol module was shot and would take $300 to replace it but could put in an aftermarket controller. The only trouble was that they didn't know if it would continue to throw the codes or not. What should I do?

Hello Ranchero,

Thanks for coming to Just Answer to ask a question.

You are looking at a fauty module which you diagnose by pulling codes with a scan tool. Or you have ground wires to the system with resistance from poor grounding or there is water in the 7 pin connector. An aftermarket system does not work the same as the ford unit and will not display trailer disc. Since they dont have this feature.

So how do I tell if it is a ground problem?

You actually clean the ground.
