all i know it's a straight 6

Ok it is a 4.9L engine.
You will need to set the engine to the #1TDC, use the illustration as a guide.
Here is the distributor Removal&Installation procedure
After replacing the distributor, you will need to adjust the ignition timing. It requires using a timing light.
