Hi Scottdagoalie

Thanks for getting back to me. This is a shifting problem. It does not go into nuetral, it stays in third gear.

The problem with your Escort may be in the #1 one way clutch or in the valve body.

  • No Upshift into OVERDRIVE
  • One-way clutch #1.
  • CHECK clutch #1.
  • Valve body.
  • CHECK orifices, solenoid valves and valve body.
  • Linkage.

One-Way Clutch and Planetary Carrier Assembly

The following illustration shows an exploded view of the one-way clutch and planetary carrier.

The first test would require a transmission tester to check the operation of the solenoids and to run a self test on the PCM to determine whether or not the problem is electrical or mechanical.
