I have a 2005 Ford 500 with an instrument cluster problem.

Resolved Question:

I have a 2005 Ford 500 with an instrument cluster problem. Ocassionally, the idiot lights and gauges go crazy. I'm told this is a common problem. I contacted my local Ford dealer and they want a ridiculous price of $700 to replace it. How I've heard that these instrument clusters can be repaired at a much cheaper price. Is this true?

There is no repair guides for this concern on this cluster from ford indicating its not a repairable cluster. There is a TSB for this concern stateing this result requires a replacement cluster.

There are a couple of questions I did have, first of all, Is this something I have to take to my dealer or can an independant mechanic do this job or is this something I can do myself. i've been told that changing the cluster is fairly easy.

hate to say this but the dealer is the only place which has the IDS scan tool to do the configuration for swapping the cluster out.
