2000 windstar cruise control quit, self tested, no light on insturment panel
Did you have any codes during self test?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
cruise light on dash never lit up
what kind of scan tool do you have? Can it look at PID data?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I have no scan tool. I pushed the off button on cruise & turned on key, the light did nothing on dash, it never lit up

Well lets do the basic checks then see if you can find something.

Check pin 7 RD/BK wire at the servo and make sure you have battery voltage with key on.

Check pin10 BK for ground.

Check pin 9 LB/RD should have battery voltage and should go to zero with brakes depressed.

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I need to go check, I will get back with you in a little bit, can you do that? All I have is a tester light,I did check #7 earlier & there is fire at # XXXXX pin. I need to check # XXXXX PIN with brakes depressed

Yes a test light will do just fine. Also hook it to battery postive then check pin 10 to make sure your ground is ok

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
okay, I will do that, I will be back in a few minutes
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
#7 has fire, #10 has ground #9 has NO fire with brake depressed & key on.
did 9 have power before you depress the brakes?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
no power before or after on #9
3.0L or 3.8L?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
3.8L

You have a bad brake pressure deactivation switch. Here is a pick of where it is. It is just under the master cylinder and it is a switch with a 2 wire plug the wire colors are LB/RD on both sides.Find brake pressure switch at location A7 and trace it down. It should have power accross both wires until brakes are depressed.

It has power on one of the two wires
Yes but it should have power across it(both side) until you depress the brakes.See the servo thinks you have the brakes applied that is why it is not working.
You can verify what I am telling you by just jumping the 2 wires at the connector but if you do this BE AWARE the only way to disengage the cruise will be with the off button if it is working or turn the ignition switch off.
