1995 ford taurus: wont start..reads..reverse..steering column itself

This answer was rated:

my 1995 ford taurus does not start sometimes I have it in park but it won't start unless I put it in nuetral. There is a lot of play in the shift column for example when it is in drive it reads like it is in reverse or nuetral. Is there some adjustment in the steering column itself? Can anyone help me?
Hello. It sounds like the problem may be in the shifter. There is not any adjustment in the column, just parts that can wear out. I would advise removing the steering column cover and inspecting for loose or broken parts. The cable adjustment is made where the cable hooks to the transmission.
