This answer was rated:

1997 F250 7.3 Powerstroke, Fuel filter light comes on when accel. flickers, knocks out ccuise control,- then goes out after getting up to speed. Front tank only,if switched to rear tank, does not happen. I changed the filter on top of eng.   Is there another filter on the fuel lines ?? or something else ?

It sounds like you have a fuel pump going bad.

The pump is two stage. It pulls your fuel on the low pressure side, creating about 6 psi in the filter bowl, then back through the high side of the pump to the injectors at 45-60 psi.

The fuel bowl has a pressure sensor that is triggering your fuel filter light. The low pressure side of your pump is the problem b/c it can't keep up with the high side, causing you to lose pressure in the fuel bowl. If the high side of the pump goes first, you will lose power but the fuel filter light will not come on.

A replacement pump is about $90. It is a pain the first time to change but not terribly hard either.
