i lagged's from a start, blows black smoke out when turbo gets to 2200rpm and above once it hits 2500,2800 plus its starts to pull. no power till turbo feels/sounds like wide open......... went to autozone, litte scanner gave the po238 error code..........

Sounds like the vanes in the turbo are sticking. Very common issue with the turbos. I suggest replacing the turbo with a Ford dealer part. The replacement turbos are resistant from sticking.

Also check the egr valve for carbon deposits. Remove the egr valve and clean with wire brush and carbon cleaner and reinstall. You can try this first, and after cleaning and reinstalling if you still have the problem, replace the turbo.

Thanks

so most likely NOT sensor related? stupid question here........where the egr valve located?

Not likely. 03-04's where really prone to the vanes sticking and the vane ring cracking inside the turbo.

The egr valve is located towards the front of the intake.

Thanks

Yes, that was a clue that the turbo vanes are sticking.

Thanks

I would suggest taking it to a Ford dealer and just having them update the modules to the latest greatest. You should see a huge difference after the reprogramming. They will probably charge about 1 hr labor to do it.

Thanks
