how do i change battery cables on 01 ford focus

they come as a harness, just route them the way you take them off.

i have the harness but i don't seem to see where they go. They go towards the back of the car and under engine

have you pulled the old harness off?

have not done that because i want to see where it goes first. im guessing it is connected using clips until it get to where it starts thats what i am having a hard time finding

the harness connects to the engine compartment fusebox, starter, alternator and grounds.

 

heres the procedure straight from the ford repair manual

Battery Cables

 

Removal

All vehicles

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cables.
    1. Disconnect the auxiliary ground cables.
    1. Disconnect the battery ground cable
  2. Disconnect the battery power cables.
    1. Disconnect the auxiliary ground cables.
    1. Disconnect the battery power cable.
  3. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector
  4. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) tube.
  5. Detach the air cleaner and secure to one side
  6. Disconnect the ground cable
  7. Detach the battery cables from the retaining clips
  8. Disconnect the starter motor solenoid electrical connector
  9. Disconnect the engine ground cable.
    1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    2. Disconnect the starter motor electrical connectors
    3. Disconnect the generator electrical connector
    Remove the battery cables
    To install, reverse the removal procedure
