93 escort: 1.9l that misfires under low rpm load right..coil pack

Customer Question

I have a 93 escort 1.9l that misfires under low rpm load right before the trani shifts down. I have replaced the coil pack and the wires and plugs were changed about a year ago.   Any ideas?

The 1.9L had a problem with having cracked cylinder heads and dropping valve seats, which would show up on tip in, or light load, only way to check is with a boroscope through the spark plug hloe or to remove the cylinder head.

well it misfires under load just before the trans shifts down what about clogged injecters.

I would lean more towards the cracked head, the injectors would be clogged at all rpm's not just under light load, the crack however can cause several driveability problems, including yours.

what about a coolant temp sensor?

No don't think so, replacing parts at this point will be a waste of money, try what I suggested.
