1995 Ford Taurus: I adjust the gear-shift lever on my steering column

Resolved Question:

How do I adjust the gear-shift lever on my steering column in my 1995 Ford Taurus? It appears to be in one gear, but is actually in another gear.

Here are the instructions for adjusting the shift cable, basically put the lever in overdrive and have someone push against it to hold it in place, then loosen the nut at the cable on the transmission, the cable will move a little, then tighten the nut.

Are you saying have someone push against the shifter so it doesn't move from the overdrive position while the nut at the cable is loosened, then tightened?

That is correct...

OK. I guess I'll start the car, put it in overdrive (what I think if overdrive) and drive the car forward, to be sure it is in overdrive. Then I will turn the engine off, hold the shifter in that position, and have someone jack the car up to make the adjustment to the cable. Have I got it right?
