  • Now is the vehicle an automatic or manual shift?
  • 4x4 or 4x2?

it is manual shiftXXXXX4 cyl the shifter is loose when in gear i was lokking to replace grommet on the end of shifter i have removed the snap ring already along with white plastic bushing it is now loose but doesnt pull out like i thought it should comes up about an inch or so then meets resistance

Ford does not recommend taking the shifter apart and trying to repair it. They recommend replacing the shifter as an entire unit. I don't think Ford makes any relacement parts for the shifter.
