2003 ford explorer XLT: disable..anti-theft system..(panic alarm

Customer Question

Is it possible to disable the anti-theft system on a 2003 ford explorer XLT? The system keeps activating (panic alarm is not being used). If it can be disabled, is this something that can be done by my or do I need a mechanic to do it?

If it is a factory alarm you cannot disable it but you probably have an issue with a sticking hood switch or the like or a door ajar switch. If it is an aftermarket alarm it can be disabled by basically removing the system. The factory alarm system uses a module which can be checked for diagnostic trouble codes and other concerns by a dealer or shop with the proper diagnostic equipment.
