2003 ford focus has battery drain somewhere. Replaced battery and then tested altenator. Auto Zone tester says it has a bad diode pattern. Replaced Alternator with good altenator and 3 hours later battery is dead. Is it possible that the starter is bad and draining the battery? Tester goes from 12 volts in battery to 8 volts when trying to start it
A common problem is high resistance in the positive battery cable end.You will have to do a voltage drop test across the cable. Also just look to see if its burned up or is really bad corroded. What is the charging voltage and is the battery light on when the car is running?

Charging at 14.2 volts and no light on the dash when running. Battery has been replaced and terminal ends cleaned and coated with dielctric grease.
you could have several different problems. One the battery might just need to be recharged because three hours should not be enough to kill a new battery. Also even though the cable ends have been cleaned the corrosion will run into the wire causing high resistance you will have to cut back the wiring from the end to inspect. Or do a voltage drop test. If there is high resistance the alternator can not charge the battery under hot loads.
