JA: What is the model/year of your Lincoln?
Customer: 2001 Lincoln ls
JA: Are you fixing your LS yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Checked battery. Dud leave key on for perhaps an hour.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Steering wheel moves into position n all desk lights come on. That's it. No clicking sound like a low battery. Put quick charge on and nothing.

Do you happen to have a volt meter to do a quick test with?

Battery is showing 8.5 volts. Meter does not have a 12V setting
Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 month ago.

Good deal,

If you have a volt meter i need you to place it on the battery cable ends and record the voltage.

Then, with the meter still connected, try to start it and record what the voltage drops to and let me know please.

Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 month ago.

Ok, i see you have already done some testing.

be right back

Expert:  Virtual Wrench replied 1 month ago.

The battery is way to low. it HAS to be at least 12 volts in order to make the starter work. If the battery is older than 5 years i would repace it because it should have been able to handle the key being turned on for an hour.

This means it has very little reserve capacity and should be replaced. Thats also why it wouldnt take a quick charge.

any further questions just let me know
