My high beams don't come on any more and my parking brake

Customer Question

My high beams don't come on any more and my parking brake won't stay engaged
JA: Have you checked the bulbs and fuses?
Customer: not yet. Does the navigator control or have a fuse for the high beams? That won't help the parking brake.
JA: What year is your Navigator?
Customer: 2005
JA: Are you fixing your Navigator yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Haven't tried anything yes. I could fix it myself if I can figure out what is wrong.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: NO

First check fuse #35 in the dash fuse box. It will have power with the high beams turned on. It should be a 20 amp fuse.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok, will do. What about my parking brake? When the lever is pushed down it won't stay for more than 15 seconds and then pops back up.

Make sure the release cable is properly attached. If it is, the release mechanism is not locking fully and causing it to release. In which the parking brake pedal assembly will have to be replaced.

Checked fuse #35, looked good but I replaced it anyway. The high beams still don't come on.

Does the high beam indicator come on when you pull the switch back or push it forward with the lights off and key turned on?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No, the high beam indicator doesn't come on with the switch back/forward, lights off and key on.

Check the high beam relay in the dash fuse box. It is C2242 in the diagram below.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is there a way to check the relay without another relay to replace it with?
Expert:  A. Penland replied 3 months ago.

Swap it with one of the other relays in the fuse box.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
great idea. Still didn't work though.
Expert:  A. Penland replied 3 months ago.

Ok.

Do you have a test light or digital multi meter?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I have a multimeter
Expert:  A. Penland replied 3 months ago.

Ok. Remove the high beam relay and look on the bottom where the pins are located. Locate pin #30 and #86. #30 should have constant power and pin#86 will only have power when the switch is pulled back or pushed forward. Do this test in the opening where the relay inserts into the fuse box with the relay removed. This will tell us if power is getting to the relay and if the high beam switch is working.

ok. It's late - we will have to try this in the morning. Thank you for all your help.
