2002 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR Replaced fuel pump about 1000 miles

Customer Question

2002 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR Replaced fuel pump about 1000 miles ago. Now after about an 1 to 2 hours of driving car misfires and turns off. This happens either driving or idling. It will not turn back on for a few hours later. Have checked the fuel pump it gives shows good pressure. I changed IAT sensor as it per code P113. Still turning off after a few hours.
JA: How many miles are on the car? Is it a steady misfire? Or random?
Customer: smooth for hours and then suddenly misfires and turns off wont start for hours.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: it has 135000 miles on it. trying to fix myself
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: It sound as if the fuel pump turns off when the problem begins
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Ford Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Hello, my name is***** and thanks for your question.

So you checked fuel pressure at the time of the no start and it is good?

By the time the mechanic comes over it will start.

Ok thanks. At this point it sounds like it is still a fuel issue. Ford fuel pumps never fail once they are running, they always fail from the off position. Since it is intermittent and heat related I would have the PCM and fuel pump relays replaced. They are inexpensive and known to fail for this symptom.

Here is the relay locations in the underhood fusebox in case you want to replace them yourself.

Thanks Kenny,
I just changed both relays. Lets see if this corrects the problem.
Expert:  Kenny Z. replied 11 months ago.

That would be great if that's all it was.

Best of luck!

Did not correct the problem

Sorry to here that. I guess we need to figure out if it is loosing fuel pressure or if the PCM is going off line. Do you know if any codes are returning?
