Linc Mark LT: We have a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT. The gear shift

Customer Question

We have a 2006 Lincoln Mark LT. The gear shift sometimes will not come out of park. If you play with it, sometimes you can get it out of park. Seems like it gets stuck in park. Any suggestions what could be causing it?

Hello, is this a center console shift or steering column shifter?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Center console

When it won't come out of park make sure the brakes are working. On this particular vehicle the brake shift interlock fails. That is what allows you to shift out of park when the brake pedal is pressed.

Is the brake shift interlock adjustable, or is it computerized
Expert:  James replied 6 months ago.
It isn't adjustable but it is replaceable. It is a small rod that locks the shift lever into place. its common for coffee or other liquid to get spilled and eventually it will fritz out.
