Hello, my name is***** is a common issue on this vehicle. If the brake lights work when the issue is occurring then we can assume it is not the brake switch. Most of the time it is the brake shift control module. This is a small computer that controls this system. This is a common failure. It can also be the shift interlock solenoid on the shifter itself, but that is not as common.

can you give me the location of the brake shift control module and how to test?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
It is located under the center console. You can check the ground connection right next to it. The only true way to test it is with a scan tool but you can check it by testing it when the problem is occurring. If you press the brake pedal the light green wire should have power and if it does the black/pink wire should have ground. If not then replace it.

we are looking in Lincoln service manual and cannot locate part in picture
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
unless you are referring to the brake shift lock actuator (it has 6 wires going into it)
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
Under the console?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
yes, we have replaced it also, still having problem
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
Have you been able to test the circuit when the prob,e is occurring?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
do you mean the 6 wires on the shift lock actuator?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
Yes. You need to see where it is losing power.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
we checked wires...red has voltage with switch on, orange does with pedal pressed, black is ground, purple does with switch on, green/white does all the time, yellow is ground
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
Hve you checked the solenoid itself.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
the actuator?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
No, the solenoid in the shifter.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
no we haven't. can you tell me how to check it?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
You can either check the resistance of it or apply voltage to it and make sure it is functioning.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
we need to remove console, right?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
Yes. Or you can access the circuit from the fuse box and the module we spoke about.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
do you know which fuse it would be?
Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
Fuse 23 in the fuse box under the hood.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.

Expert:  FixItMan replied 7 months ago.
