Hello, what got damaged was the shifter assembly. The brake shift interlock is on shifter housing. When they get coffee or liquid spille they can make a funny noise. To correct it would be to replace the shifter assembly. If shifting out of park isn't giving you trouble it's possible the noise goes away after it dries out. If you are having issues shifting out of park. The shifter assembly was damaged.
