Are you jumping power to the motor through the air pump relay or from the battery?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the battery
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Thank you. Check fuse #17 in the engine bay fuse box. It powers up fuse #3 through the air pump relay circuit. The air pump will only come on for the first 2 minutes of engine operation. After that, it will only come on when the PCM (Engine Computer) commands it.

Below is the wiring diagram for the air pump circuit.

Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

You have 6 volts on the LIGHT BLUE/PINK striped wire?
Is this with the relay disconnected?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
NO, u said to start at hm18, meter read .02 volt , so not 10.5 volts go to hm24. checked resistance from b to designated fuse which is #3 one side read 0.00 other read 6.0 which is higher than 5 ohms right? service open in B right...
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Ok, sorry about that. Now that we are both on the same page. Yes, open in battery + circuit.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
any prior experiance where to start loooking?
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

Not really. We did not see many Mark VIIIs in the shop. Ford did not sell that many of them and now there are not that many left on the road. You can overlay a wire from fuse 17 to the relay. Tap into the wire for the fuse and the connector. Do not cut the original wire from the circuit.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I did that and it set a code as high circut. engine runs fine without it. was gonna selll it besides pump will run all day long.
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.

That is odd. The fuse has constant power even with the key off. You must have a short to power once the relay is plugged in to the pump.
