1986 Lincoln Continental. gh beams do not work. Tried dimmer

Customer Question

1986 Lincoln Continental. High beams do not work. Tried dimmer switch, checked the relays, and the high beam/ low beam eye in the windshield. Swapped parts from a 1987 Lincoln Mark VII which are similar parts. Flashed to pass high beam is the only way
it comes on. Auto lamp is off and auto dim is off. I tried to find answers on google with no luck.

Hello, my name is ***** ***** I am a professional here at Just Answer. I have noticed that your question was not getting a response and thought I would see if you still need help with this.I apologize for the delay and I hope I can still assist you with this here.

One common cause for the loss of high beams on your 1986 is usually caused by a failed Photocell Amplifier, to check it copy and paste the link below to your browser to open and view it.

Gave it a try, jumped both outer pins, turned lights on by the rocker switch pulled on the dimmer switch and it melted my small jumper wire, again both auto dim/lights are off and the flash to pass works when u pull on the dimmer switch...

The melting of the jumper sounds like you have a short to ground in the circuit, have you checked for that?

No I haven't where would I start? could it be a relay? I belive there is 3 relays that work with the lights? Do you have a wiring schematic so I can try to figure it out?
Expert:  Ronnie replied 1 year ago.

I do have the wiring diagrams , there not the greatest due to the age of the car but Ill send them and hopefully you can use them, Have a look in the links below, copy and paste the links to your browser to open and we them.
