Mechanic replaced the sensor twice and said the trouble was in the instrument cluster and would cost 1100.00 to replace.
He also tested the oil pump and said it had plenty of pressure. The gauge works some times but when it doesn't it goes out for several days at a time, then will work for a day or two.

The sensor is not actually a pressure switch, it is basically an on off switch. Since the switch was replaced twice and the problem still occurs, then the cluster is the problem. The oil pressure gauge is part of the cluster and the cluster will need to be replaced as an assembly.
