Customer Question

I have a 2003 Lincoln LS V6 I just purchased from auction with 73,000 miles. Upon arrival the vehicle will not accelerate at all when the gas pedal is pressed. The service ((P)) light comes on then it says to Apply ((P)). I ran a code reader on the vehicle and the following codes popped up. P1406, P2104, P2111, P1405. Once again when the vehicle is turned on there is no acceleration when the gas pedal is pressed. It just idles.

Country: United States
Make: Lincoln
Model: LS
Year: 2003
Engine: V6

Already Tried:
We tried to clean the MAF sensor, We also tried to checked the throttle body positioning sensor, and cleaned the throttle body.

6Bucs :

Hello and welcome to Just Answer. My name is James.

6Bucs :

Basically the computer is forcing limited throttle (idle only) because it is sensing a throttle position that is out of specification. The P1405-6 codes indicate that the DPFE hoses may be disconnected. Let's start with the 2 throttle position codes as there is a chance the other 2 will correct themselves.

With the engine off, disconnect the black intake tubing from the air filter to the engine. Then remove the 4 bolts and the throttle body.

The throttle body is shown in figure 4. There are 2 electrical connectors with red locking tabs on them that must first be slid back to allow the connector to release. Once removed, clean the entire throttle bore, front and back, with throttle body cleaner, available at any parts store. Once all of the gunk is gone out of there (and it needs to be perfect) push the throttle plate all the way closed with your hand, then re-install.

Connect the air cleaner tube and start the engine to see if the problem has resolved. Many times this is all it needs. If the problem persists, the throttle position sensor should be replaced.

For the DPFE codes, you may have one of 2 systems. If you have a sensor on the side of the intake manifold that looks like this.....

make sure the 2 black hoses are connected to the sensor and to the egr tube below. One hose is slightly larger than the other, so look carefully to make sure the hoses are on the correct ports.

If you have the ESM system, you will have a one piece unit that looks like this...

It is self contained. Basically, check to see if the electrical connector is plugged in and that the black hose is still attached on it. If everything looks okay, replace the ESM valve assembly.
