2007 Lincoln MKZ ran out of gas...interior map lights won't turn off. Disconnected battery cable, connect it back, lights come back on and stay on. Is it something intentional, some Lincoln engineer decided to program so that a dumb broad is recognized for letting car run out of gas??? How do I get them to turn off??
Already Tried: disconnected negative battery cable, then connected it back...didn't fix it...interior map lights come back on and stay on.

Does your door ajar light stay on?
Yes
So the door ajar light stays on when all doors are shut. Is there any other lights or anything
Im almost ready to give you a answer but need to make sure there are no other lights and issues
No other warning lights are on. The map lights just wouldnt turn off until I pulled the #3 fuse out...that allowed me to not run my battery dead...however, I now can turn the map light off and on but the windows wont go down and the lighted mirror wont ligbt and the glove compartment wont light. Pulling the #3 fuse fixed the map light but killed tbe light in those other things.
Yes that fuse controls the interior lights, luggage compartment lamps, glove box lamps, vanity mirror lights. Now with the door ajar light on with the door close means that a door ajar switch somehow went bad. What happens is the lights stay on because the car thinks the door is always open. The door ajar switch is located inside the door panel on the door latch. I dont think when you ran out of gas had anything to to with this.It might be just a coincidence that this happened. Now you can try this. Take some WD-40 or PB blaster and spray into the door latch. Open and close the door a couple of times and see if the door ajar light goes off. If not then you will need to replace it.
