Customer Question

How do you remove the seat back panel? The upper clips are free, but the lower seat back is still secured. This is a 2006 Lincoln LS.

I don't want to break the lower supports, but I am trying to remove the panel so I can repair the broken upper clips using an L bracket or a ziptie.  I need to be sure the lower brackets won't break when I remove the pane.

Country: United States
Make: Lincoln
Model: LS
Year: 2006

Already Tried:
I can see the lower mounts and have tugged gently at the bottom of the seat panel. Is there a release on the lower posts? Or do I just pull out with force?

Chuck :

I am assuming you mean the seat back panel on the front seat?

Chuck :

Here are the instructions for you

Chuck :

Remove the seat backrest trim panel.

  1. Use an appropriate tool to release the 2 pin-type retainers at the lower bosses of the backrest trim panel.2.Push forward on the top of the backrest panel and slide it downward to release the upper hooks. 3. Continue to push forward on the top of the backrest trim panel while rotating the bottom a few inches rearward to disengage the upper hook barbs.
Chuck :

You will need a trim panel tool like this

Customer :

Step 1 is the part I am still not clear on. Where do I place the tool to release the lower retainers? Do I inset it from the bottom of the panel, or reach in from the top where there is a gap because the upper hooks are lose? Am I using it just to rock the retainers lose, or is there a release mechanism I am to activate?

Chuck :

Go in from the bottom and then pop it out with the tool. The pic shows you the location of the two clips.

Chuck :

The clips look similar to this

Chuck :

Does that make sense to you?

Customer :

so the clips are on the inside! That explains why I couldn't see the clips from below, or inside the pocket. It must be reversed. I will try it after buying the tool tomorrow.

Chuck :

Yes you will insert the tool from the bottom of the panel around the clip then pry it out on each side

Customer :

Thank you, I have a broken seat panel on my daughter's 2000 LS, and my husband's 2006 LS. At least they are consistent and now I can repair both.
