I have a 2000 town car signature series...will level and then dump what wrong here...when it level I can shut the switch to off position and it stays up...help me

If the check suspension light comes on you have some form of air ride fault. If you do not see any lights on the instrument cluster the most likely cause is a height sensor being faulty or the height sensor is not attached properly which the system will continue to raise the vehicle and eventually will relieve pressure once the compressor times out from pumping too long. Being you can keep the height at the correct level once the switch is moved to off indicates that the air lines and air bag solenoids are good and will lead to most likely a ride height sensor fault. The most commonly seen height rod sensor issue is from the rear, the rear rod will sometimes pop off of the suspension trailing arm to cause a similar concern. Where is the height sensor located....which side is height rod located

The height sensor is in the rear of the vehicle and in the middle which you will see it mounted to the suspension trailing arm. I have attached a picture to show what the sensor looks like.
