Help!! My car is stuck in park, and won't shift out. It's a 2000 Lincoln Mark VIII
1998 was the last year of the Mark VIII, do you have an LS ? Do your brake lights work ?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
It is a 1998,and an LS, sorry. The brake lights do not work.
Ok, try this, turn the key forward to the first notch, with your foot on the brake try pulling the shifter to N. Then start the engine and see if it will go into gear. The vehicle is equipped with a shift interlock that will not allow it to shift out of P if the brake lights do not work.

You are a genius, and have my everlasting gratitude.
OK great ! Please hit the accept and check your brake light fuse, it is likely blown.
