Customer Question

I have a proform 480 pi that the belt stops with no warning. What could the issue be? I have lubricated it already.

Hi Claire

Expert:  Pete replied 5 months ago.

Does it also stop suddenly when it is turning without anyone standing on it?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
No it doesn't
Expert:  Pete replied 5 months ago.

Ok, so the motor is able to turn continuously...

Have you tried adjusting the belt tension?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I have, but I am not sure if it is tight enough or too loose. How do you tell that?
Expert:  Pete replied 5 months ago.

You should be able to lift the belt slightly with a finger. It should not slip when you are walking on it.

It should also be aligned straight, and not off to one side.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
When you say slightly you mean like how many inches? It is straight
Expert:  Pete replied 5 months ago.

Around 1-2 inches.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I can hold it up about 2 inches
Expert:  Pete replied 5 months ago.

Ok, that sounds about right.

Approximately how old is the machine?

Does the underside of the belt appear frayed or worn?

Has the belt ever been replaced?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
Not sure how old it is, it was given to me. Belt doesn't look worn or frayed. Belt has never been replaced. The lady that gave it to me said she used it for about a month then stopped.
Expert:  Pete replied 5 months ago.

Ok, if the belt it not worn then the motor may be having difficulty when under a load - you can check around the motor for any signs of burning or carbon buildup which may indicate a problem, or you could have a service engineer come and check it for you.

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
I saw no buildup when I took the cover off. Also took the cover off for the incline part and cleaned under there.

Ok, let me check if the other techs have any idea on this...
