why does my life fitness X5 elliptical have a problem with the resistance system(it shows the word "OFF" during my workout where the level should be displayed) and what caused it?

I think I am understanding you, but want to make sure- when you say, "If the resistance is stuck on hard and does not change" do you mean when I notice the words "OFF" it feels like it's on the hardest level(it's stuck on hard)? That's exactly what it feels like- when I hear the beep and see the word OFF, it feels like I am trying to tread through mud. Do you think this could be the problem? I don't hear anything like a humming noise....I really need to know- how could this have happened? I have someone else using my elliptical, and suspect she is being too rough with it.
Its most likely your console has a short in it and needs to be replaced
yea, get a new console and do it yourself
just the 4 screws and the the wires in the back, very easy
if it works normally for a little bit, then you know everything is working correctly
The brake and dc motor will work, or they wont. Once broken, they cant start to work again
so that points to the console sending them a bad signal, causing the off
serial number on the console and base should be all you need
its like the vin # XX a car, gives you all the info on the product

Hi- yes, I have been waiting for him to reply with the rest of his answer. It says option 1(which I received info on) and the option 2 he never elaborated his answer as to what option 2 is.
