Schwinn 113 upright exercise bike. The electronic display no longer works. Error message displayed is E-2
Optional Information: Make: Schwinn Model: 113
Check the reed sensor also known as the speed sensor. It is located near the flywheel. It is mounted to the frame and looks like a small black tube with a wire attached to it. What you need to do is to check if it is good by using an ohm meter. 1. Unplug the reed sensor, 2. Place the red and black leads on the two wires 3. turn the flywheel so that the magnet (should be mounted on the flywheel)passes by the sensor(make sure the sensor is only 1/8" away) 4. the meter should show the sensor opening and closing if it does not recheck the gap from the magnet and if it is good, replace the reed switch. 5. The other possibility is the magnet fell off the flywheel and in this case you will need to superglue it back in place.Thank you for your question and I hope this helps.
Thanks for your response. Is this the usual problem with the console display? What is the second most common issue and would I need to replace the console? I don't have an Ohm monitor handy right now to verify your answeer.
I have opened up the base, and can not find the speed sensor. I looked on line and there are no speed or reed sensor parts listed for replacement for the schwinn 113.
Is there another name for this part?
The console would be the next thing that goes wrong the most. I looked as well but don't see one either. This would be the only bike I know of that doesn't. Check close to the flywheel (look for wires coming from the sensor). If it isn't there the only other solution would be to replace the console.

I was waiting to hear back from you on Sunday regarding the fact that I could not find the reed sensor part you referenced. After several hours waiting for your response I gave up. You did not respond to by second question until the next day. Thanks
Sorry we are individuals at our homes. We are not in an office where we are scheduled for hours. The weekends are hard to get anyone to answer questions. I figured i would try to help you the best I could. I work full-time during the week and try to answer questions when i can.
Answer provided initially did not address problem. Sent back a second question that took a day to hear back when I was trying to work on the problem the same day. I was more dissatisfied with the untimely response given I had immediately tried the suggestion and needed further instructions. I have since thrown out the bike.
