First time I work on Winchester 70. Safety is hard to engage

Customer Question

Hi
First time I work on Winchester 70. Safety is hard to engage and need to lift the bolt about 1/4 inch in order to place lever in middle position, then lower it down to push it all the way back. Is this a trigger problem or safety mechanism problem?

Hi,

It is a problem with the safety, it needs to be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated and reassembled. After removing the firing pin with the shroud from the bolt body the firing pin, the safety, safety plunger, spring and stop pin need to be removed from the shroud. Clean all parts and use a high quality gun grease when assembling.
