Thank you for using Just Answer!

Open the cylinder and look at the part of the frame that was covered by the crane (the part that the cylinder swings out on) and let me know what numbers and/or letters you see there.

What is the serial number of the gun?

Yes. Just go back to this page and type in your response when you are ready. There are a lot of S&W .38s and I need to make sure I'm giving your information on the correct one.

The Smith & Wesson Model 12 is also called the .38 Military & Police Airweight. It is a double-action 6-shot revolver chambered in .38 S&W Special. It is an alloy K frame with a round or square butt. The finish can be either blue or nickel and the grips are checkered walnut with S&W medallions. Barrel lengths are 2, 4, 5, or 6 inches. They were made from 1952 through 1986.

Based on the serial number provided, your gun was made in 1960.

Retail values (add $50 for a nickel finish):

Excellent: $420-$600
Very Good: $270-$330
Good: $215-$240

I hope this helps.
