Thank you for using Just Answer!

If you open the cylinder and look on the part of the frame that was covered by the crane (the part that the cylinder swings out on), the model number should be there. What is it?

Sorry, the individual who has the gun has left. I will need to get back to him and will resend my request for information.

Thanks

OK. There are about 10 models that start with a "K" in the serial number. I can date the revolver based on that, but can't tell the model and, therefore, price.

Hi,

Is the gun a top break or swing out cylinder? What is the barrel length? Is it a hammerless or does it have an exposed hammer?

Tom

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

This is a Model 17 with an exposed hammer and a cylinder that swings out.

Smith & Wesson 22 LR, Ser #K396403

Hi,

The Model 17 (K-22 Masterpiece) was introduced in 1946 as the K-22. In 1957 when S&W went to numbers to identify models, it was changed to Model 17. The finish is blued and it was offered with 4", 6", or 8 3/8" barrels. The grips are checkered walnut. It is a double action 6 shot revolver. There is a Model 17 Plus with a 10 shot cylinder that was introduced in 1996 and a Model 17 Full Lug. The barrels on this version have a full length lug. The Blue Book values are:

100%98%95%90%80%70%60%
$595$475$350$275$235$210$200

Add 20% to 30% to the Blue Book values for retail prices.

I hope this helps you,

Tom
