The 'Jones' of Dow Jones fame was born in Worchester, Massachusetts, and began his career in the world of finance as a reporter at the Kiernan News Agency in New York. It was said that "Eddie" could read and understand financial reports faster than anyone. Feeling frustrated and unchallenged, Jones and Charles Henry Dow, who also worked for Kiernan, set out in 1882 to form their own financial reporting firm called Dow Jones & Co. The first Dow Jones Averages report appeared in 1884 and included 11 representative stocks selected by Charles Dow.  See the following link:
