Family Law Questions? Ask a Family Lawyer Online.
Hi! I'm Heather. I've been a practicing attorney for the last 15 years, and I'd be happy to assist you for informational and educational purposes.
Marital property is considered property and debt acquired during the marriage. It does not include property a spouse owned prior to the marriage, and it also does not include inheritances received by a spouse during the marriage. Separate property can lose it's character of separate property if it is comingled with marital property without any way to track what portion is marital and what portion is separate. Has that answered your question? Please let me know if you have any follow up questions, as I'm happy to help.
