Customer Question

I have legal guardianship in WV for a 15 year old girl. she wants to color her hair. do I have the right to give her permission without her mother's permission. Her mother does not have custody and an active CPS case is pending. The father has been dead for 10 years.

Coloring hair isn't something that requires parental permission, unlike something like say, piercings or tattoos. So you would be fine in allowing her to do so.

I am a social worker. some of my youth are unable to cut their hair per our CPS instructions. There is a statute regarding this in WV. I'm just not sure if it applies to hair color as well... like purple. What do you base your answer off of? is there legal guidelines I can get from my guardian ad lidem about specific parental rights that supersede my guardianship?

I wouldn't think that it would, but I'll opt out and see if someone knows better than I do.
