Customer Question

In Florida, does abuse affect the division of assets in a divorce?

Thank you for your question. Please permit me to assist you with your concerns.

Abuse generally does not affect the division of assets in a divorce. What it can affect are alimony, as it can be increased in size, duration, and percentage for the victim, and it can also affect child custody. But assets are typically unrelated to abuse as ownership of assets is separate from conflicts or grounds for filing.

Sincerely,

Dimitry, Esq.
