Customer Question

Divorced since December 10, 2014. Due to financial difficulty i cashed in both my sons UTMA accounts $8885 and $6914 in June 20, 2014. I thought they where 529, accounts but I have validated my sons own the accounts, and I am custodian. Now my ex is wanting the money as my son is 21. My other son is 17. What are my options?

Good Evening,

I will try to best answer your question.

I would have a conversation with your 21 year old son and explain what happened. He is the victim because you took his property. The good news is the only one who could press charges against you is your 21 year old regarding that account. As for your 17 year old, you have to make plans to replace the money because x could make a bigger headache of that since he is a minor. I wiould try to stall answering x until son is over 18.

I hope this information is helpful and I wish you the best of luck.
