Is it smart to keep a marriage a secret during a visitation

Customer Question

Is it smart to keep a marriage a secret during a visitation battle over ex not liking fiancé staying overnight unmarried?

Thank you for your question. Please permit me to assist you with your concerns.

No, it is not smart at all. A spouse has far more potential rights than a fiance. While your new spouse may not be a guardian, your past spouse generally cannot bar access to your new spouse unless that person is 'unfit'. So hiding a marriage is unwise, especially because doing so may create a claim by that person that you are not acting in good faith by failing to disclose all relevant information.

Sincerely,

Dimitry, Esq.
