If my husband pays for things for his ex, for example furniture. Do those expenses count tours the alimony amount?

Thank you for your question. Please permit me to assist you with your concerns.

My apologies but they do not count toward alimony. Such expenses are considered separate, as they are generally deemed to be 'gifts'. They DO count toward alimony if both parties, that is your spouse and the ex, designate such purchases as being done in lieu of alimony, and hopefully get that in writing. Otherwise anything purchased or obtained is not automatically deemed support and is instead considered to be a standalone contribution.

Good luck.
