We are a same sex couple and have been Registered Domestic

This answer was rated:

We are a same sex couple and have been Registered Domestic Partners in California since March 22, 2007, I am on disability. We now wish to be married as it is now legal in Ca. Do we have to terminate our RDP before we can get married?

Thank you for your question. Please permit me to assist you with your concerns.

There is absolutely no requirement under California law to terminate the RDP before you can pursue your nuptials. The RDP would only need to be terminated if you wish to get married to other people and not to each other. Because domestic partners and marriages are different, having one in place does not invalidate or block your ability to pursue the other option.

Good luck to you and congratulations.
